“TECNOLOGIA DE TRATAMIENTO DE GASES” es una de las materias optativas del 4º curso del Grado en Ingeniería Ambiental. Se sitúa dentro del módulo de optatividad en la Especialidad ATMOSFERA Y RUIDO. Dado que las especializaciones no son cerradas, su diseño permite al estudiante seleccionar opciones de formación transversales como son la gestión ambiental, el análisis y caracterización
de los contaminantes en los diferentes medios o las tecnologías e instalaciones de tratamiento de la contaminación
atmosférica, de las aguas y de los suelos y residuo. En esta asignatura se desarrolla el instrumental matemático que sirve para analizar las funciones de una y varias variables reales. La asignatura Fundamentos Matemáticos II sirve para completar este instrumental, mediante herramientas de Álgebra Lineal, Geometría, Estadística y Probabilidad.
Dado su carácter básico y aplicado, debe servir de apoyo tanto a materias que requieren conocimientos matemáticos sencillos como para aquellas que exigen una base matemática más compleja (Fundamentos de la Física o Tecnología de Materiales).
El trabajo que se desarrollará en esta asignatura permitirá a los y las estudiantes hacer cálculos básicos tales como el volumen o el centro de gravedad de un sólido, que tienen una importancia muy relevante en el cálculo de estructuras en Ingeniería.
Para poder desarrollar “Fundamentos Matemáticos I” sin excesiva dificultad debe tenerse un dominio básico de funciones elementales de una variable (polinómicas, trigonométricas, exponenciales, logarítmicas), del trazado de sus gráficas y de herramientas elementales para su estudio (derivación e integración). Además, son necesarios conocimientos elementales de resolución de ecuaciones y operativa con expresiones matemáticas, aspectos todos que se estudian en las matemáticas de 2º de Bachillerato.

La asignatura proporciona los conocimientos necesarios para realizar un análisis sistemático de los procesos de depuración y emisión de contaminantes atmosféricos en plantas industriales.
Para su desarrollo se necesita de los conocimientos previos obtenidos en las asignaturas de operaciones básicas de la Ingeniería Ambiental, química de la contaminación atmosférica y muestreo y análisis de gases.
La publicación del programa de la asignatura facilita la coordinación horizontal y vertical en la titulación.
