Description and Contextualization of the SubjectToggle Navigation

The Final Degree Project (FDP) is an original exercise, to be carried out individually and presented and defended before a university tribunal, consisting of a project in the field of specific mechanical technology of Industrial Engineering.

The work must be original and will always be developed under the supervision of a director, whose role will be to define the objectives to be achieved, guide its preparation and monitor it.

The FDP is located in the second semester of the 4th year of the degree. It is the last subject that will be compulsorily evaluated to obtain the Degree, and its public defense or evaluation cannot be carried out if the credits corresponding to the rest of the degree subjects have not been passed.

Specific and transversal competencies

1. Know, understand and apply the concepts of science and technology required for professional development in industrial engineering specialty and that allow to respond to the problems it poses with a high degree of autonomy, facilitating progress in subsequent studies.

2. Apply the strategies of scientific methodology: analyze the problematic situation qualitatively and quantitatively, propose hypotheses and solutions that allow the resolution of engineering problems in their specialty with initiative, decision making, creativity and critical reasoning.

3. Adequately communicate knowledge, procedures, results and skills, using the appropriate means and the specific vocabulary and terminology of the field of Industrial engineering specialty.

4. Work effectively in multidisciplinary and multilingual environments, integrating skills and knowledge to make decisions in the field of industrial engineering in your specialty.

5. Direct, plan, write, manage and develop and control designs, projects and processes in the field of industrial engineering, whose purpose, in accordance with the corresponding specific technology, is the construction, renovation, repair, conservation, demolition, manufacturing, installation, assembly or operation of: structures, mechanical equipment, energy installations, electrical and electronic installations, industrial facilities and plants, and manufacturing and automation processes.

6. Know, understand and apply the legislation, specifications, regulations and standards of mandatory compliance in the exercise of the profession of Industrial Technical Engineer, being consistent with professional ethics and applying the principles and methods of quality, safety and business economic framework.

7. Analyze and assess the social and environmental impact of technical solutions to the challenges posed by technological development, applying sustainability criteria.

There are 3 established procedures for the assignment of FDP:

• The teaching staff, throughout the course, will make a proposal of topics to develop the FDP. This proposal will be carried out through the GAUR application and no student will be assigned. Those students interested in taking the FDP will select one of the proposed FDPs and after contacting the professor responsible for it, the assignment of the corresponding students will be made in GAUR. This assignment will be made after a meeting held between the teacher and the student to, by mutual agreement, confirm the assignment of the FDP.

• In those cases in which the topic of the FDP is previously agreed upon between the teaching staff and the student, the recording of the proposal will be made in GAUR, including from the outset: title of the FDP, director and the assigned student.

• In cases in which the FDP is proposed by companies or other institutions that have an agreement with the EIVG, the Deputy Director of Business Relations will assign a director, that will include the proposal in the application GAUR for the subsequent selection of the students.

The specific topic will depend on the topic proposed by the student and the Director. When the FDP is linked to company internships, it will depend on the type of company and the task carried out by the student during the internship.

In all cases, the FDP report must include a specific section, of at least 200 words, that contains a reflection on the degree of connection of the FDP with the SDG and with democratic principles and values.

MethodologyToggle Navigation

The FDP is a subject that consists of autonomous and individual work directed by a director. The director will hold a series of meetings with the student in order to establish the objectives, plan and work methodology, as well as control the progress of the activity developed, assisting in decision-making to achieve the objectives.

Once the director considers the work completed, the student may make the defense request through the procedure enabled in GAUR.

Ordinary Call: Orientations and DisclaimerToggle Navigation

Registration will give the right to two official calls in each academic year in accordance with the provisions of the academic calendar approved by the School Board. Students who have not defended or have failed the FDP in the calls established for the course must re-enroll in the following academic year.

Students will specify the language in which they wish to prepare and defend their FDP, among those that have been used in the teaching of the Degree.

The FDP may be defended distributed throughout the academic year, according to the academic calendar, approved by the School Board.

The student will have a total of 6 calls to make the public presentation and defense of the FDP.

The evaluation and subsequent grading of the FDP will be carried out based on the evaluation of the director and the tribunal after the defense act by the student, taking into account that 25% of the total grade corresponds to the director's evaluation, and the remaining 75% with the evaluation carried out by the tribunal. To carry out both evaluations, the director and the tribunal have 2 rubrics approved by the School Board and published on the School's website.

The defense session will be public unless a confidentiality commitment has been authorized in the assignment document. During the defense, the three members of the FDP evaluation tribunal must be present.

Each student will have a maximum time for the defense that will be established by the director of the FDP and in which the student must present the objectives, methodology, content and conclusions of the FDP, subsequently answering the questions, clarifications, comments and suggestions that the members of the tribunal may ask you.

The minutes corresponding to the FDP must be signed by all members of the tribunal through the GAUR application.
