Maite Goiriena obtained her PhD in Materials Science and Technology from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in 2017. She developed her thesis at the Basque Center for Materials, Applications and Nanostructures. After a postdoctoral stay (2017-2020) at the University of California Berkeley (USA), she joined the UPV/EHU as assistant professor in the Dept. of Applied Physics I of the School of Engineering of Bilbao.

Her research experience focuses on the fabrication and characterization of magnetic nano- and micro-structures for their potential applications in biomedicine and in the development of energy efficient devices. She is currently working on the development of magnetic sensors for the study of magnetotactic bacteria.
