Amaya Fernández Menicucci graduated in English Philology from the University of Alicante in 2001 and earned her Ph.D. in English Studies by said university in 2007. In 2003 she was granted a research scholarship in Gender Studies and worked as a research fellow at the University of Alicante until 2007. During this period she participated in a State-funded research project on multidisciplinary redefintions of motherhood, and was presented with an award for young women researchers in 2005. As a result of research stays at the universities of Antwerp (Belgium), La Sapienza (Rome, Italy) and Limerick (Ireland), she published her first book on postcolonial and diasporic gender identities in 2006. In 2008 she got a position as lecturer in English and U.S. literature and English language at the University of Castille-La Mancha and began shifting her research interest towards gender representations in cinema, mainly Hollywoood mainstream productions, and TV, specifically reality shows. Since 2016 she has been lecturing in English and U.S. literature and cinema at the University of the Basque Country. She is currently a member of the research project REWEST and is working on the representation of gender/s in sci-fi re-writings of Western myths.
