Description and Contextualization of the SubjectToggle Navigation
The "Environmental Technologies" course is included in the Common Module for Industrial Branch.
Industrial processes generate environmental impacts since they have energy and material inputs and produce effluents that pollute the air, water and soil. At present it is necessary to control and reduce these negative effects in order to comply with environmental regulations.
In this course the characteristics of these impacts together with the evaluation methods are described. The fundamentals of techniques for reducing and controlling these impacts are also described.
There are not previous requirements to take this course.
Skills/Learning outcomes of the subjectToggle Navigation
This course develops the following specific, general and transversal skills.
Specific skills:
C7 Ability to analyze and assess the social and environmental impact of technical solutions.
General skills:
CRI10 Knowledge and application of environmental technologies and sustainability.
Transversal competences:
C12: adopt a attitude responsible, organized at work and willing to learn considering the challenge to raise the necessary continuing education
C13: Apply scientific strategies: analyse qualitative and quantitative problematic situation, hypotheses and solutions using their own models of industrial engineering.
Work effectively in groups C14
Learning outcomes are:
Understanding the environmental problems of the industry
Solve environmental problems with current techniques
Properly apply the methodologies effluent treatment in industrial processes
Calculating emissions in industrial processes

MethodologyToggle Navigation
The methodology consists of lectures, deliverables and directed works.
Assessment systemsToggle Navigation
- Continuous Assessment System
- Final Assessment System
- Tools and qualification percentages:
- Written test to be taken (%): 70
- Individual works (%): 10
- Team projects (problem solving, project design)) (%): 20
Ordinary Call: Orientations and DisclaimerToggle Navigation
The evaluation will be continuous and divided as follows:
- Written exam (70%). Partial exams will be realised. With a result below 6 in one of the partial exam the content included in the partial examination shall be assessed in the final exam. Omission of a partial examination implies that the subject matter hereof shall be assessed in the final exam.
- Deliverables (20%) works will be realised and evaluated in classroom.
- Directed work, more difficult work to be performed under the direction of teacher (10%). The delivered reports were evaluated.
The completion of deliverables and the directed work is compulsory.
To pass the course it is necessary:
Obtain a minimum of 5 in the final exam (partials).
Obtain a minimum of 5 in the deliverables and directed works.
Obtain a minimum of 5 in the directed works.
If a student who can not participate in the continuous evaluation he/she shall ask permission to the School during the first 9 weeks of the course and may credit the achievement of learning outcomes through a final exam.
Extraordinary Call: Orientations and DisclaimerToggle Navigation
The same evaluation criteria will be applied.
Students with continuous assessment shall have approved the deliverables and directed works, made during the first fourth-month period (september-december), to pass the extraordinary call.
