Description and Contextualization of the SubjectToggle Navigation

The course reviews the main artistic movements from the beginning of the 19th century to the present day, aiming to provide the student with a general knowledge of the processes developed in the art world in the last two centuries, to be able to identify the different artistic movements and to have a general idea of the aesthetic and philosophical approaches behind them.



It is also intended to point out the existing relationships between artistic currents and creation both in the media arts and in audiovisual products for the media and advertising.



The course is therefore an indispensable complement to the approaches to audiovisual media developed in other subjects of the degree plan.

1. Know, understand, appreciate and critically evaluate different cultural and artistic manifestations in the field of contemporary art.



2. Identify the existing relationships between these manifestations and society -the mentality and technical possibilities of the time in which they are created-, or with the person or community that creates them.



3. Be aware of the evolution of thought, aesthetic trends, fashions and tastes, as well as the representative, expressive and communicative importance that aesthetic factors have played and play in the daily life of individuals and societies.



4. To develop an open, respectful and critical attitude towards the diversity of artistic and cultural expressions.

Practical



1.-A classroom practice based on the indications received about a selection of works exhibited at the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum.



2.-A work based on the visit to one of the art exhibitions on display during the four-month period in Bilbao.

MethodologyToggle Navigation

The teaching will consist of master classes accompanied by practical sessions in which various examples of artistic works from the periods and artistic movements studied will be analyzed.



At the same time, students will have to make visits to the exhibitions programmed in the museums of the Basque Autonomous Community. The characteristics of this program make it impossible to establish them sufficiently in advance, so they will be announced at the beginning of the teaching period of the subject. In any case, one of the visits will be made with the teacher of the subject.

ORDINARY CONVOCATION orientations and resignation



In accordance with art. 8.3 of the Regulations on Student Evaluation, students who wish to abandon the continuous evaluation and join the final exam must submit in writing to the faculty responsible for the subject the waiver to the continuous evaluation within the first nine weeks from the beginning of the term, that is, before November 10, 2017 (or March 23, 2018 in the case of second term subjects).



Continuous evaluation mode:



-Performance of a group work, with a value of 40%.



-Performance of an individual work, with a value of 60%.



In accordance with art.12.2 of the Regulations on Student Evaluation, students may waive the call within one month before the end of the teaching period, i.e. before November 23 (or April 19 in the second term). The waiver must be submitted in writing to the professor in charge of the course.



Final exam mode



A written test. The work will consist of a theoretical part (contents of the course) and another that will consist of the application of these contents to the study of the works proposed by the teacher.



Waiver: The student's failure to submit the work on the date indicated implies the waiver of the call and the student will appear in the minutes as NOT SUBMITTED.

La Convocatoria extraordinaria tendrá las mismas características que la Prueba Final. En el caso de los alumnos que no hayan superado las pruebas de la primera convocatoria en la modalidad de Evaluación Continua, la evaluación podrá ponderar las calificaciones obtenidas durante el curso



La no presentación del trabajo supone la renuncia a la convocatoria y el alumno figurará en el acta como NO PRESENTADO.



This evaluation system will be applied both on-site and off-site, if the situation so requires.
