Description and Contextualization of the SubjectToggle Navigation

The subject Workshop on Resources for Mathematical Expression and Representation is an annual 4th year subject, it has 6 credits and is taught in Basque. The course has a total of 8 theoretical classes, the rest being practical classes.



Attendance to all sessions, both lectures and practical, is compulsory.

Skills/Learning outcomes of the subjectToggle Navigation

Starting from the importance of the use of didactic material, logical, arithmetic, geometric, measurement and probabilistic materials used in the initiation to mathematical contents in Pre-school Education will be analysed and developed.

Theoretical and practical contentToggle Navigation

THEME 1.- TEACHING MATERIALS Historical review of teaching material for learning mathematical content and justification for the use of environmental and structured teaching material in the early years.

THEME 2.- ANALYSIS AND ELABORATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL AND STRUCTURED MATERIALS Corresponding to logical, numerical, geometrical, measurement and probabilistic material.

THEME 3.- OTHER RESOURCES Analysis of school books, audiovisual material and educational software.



DIDACTIC MATERIAL.historical review of didactic material for the learning of mathematical contents and justification of the use of environmental and structured didactic material in the first years.

MethodologyToggle Navigation

- Groups of 4-5 people will be formed and these groups will be maintained throughout the year.

- In the theoretical classes, on the one hand, the characteristics of Project Based Learning will be presented and, on the other hand, the use of didactic materials.

- In the practical classes, on the one hand, students will have to design a didactic proposal to be carried out in Early Childhood Education based on Project Based Learning and will have to present it in written and oral form. On the other hand, students will have to build manipulative resources to work on mathematical contents in Early Childhood Education. They will also have to present in written and oral form activities to be carried out in Pre-school Education with these constructed materials.

- In the practical classes devoted to the construction of materials, students will have to bring: paper and cardboard, scissors, glue, .....

- Assessment among students will be taken into account.

Otherwise, every student has the right at the end, if he wishes, to perform the exam, for example, to raise the grade.

Classroom with movable tables and equipped with the available mathematical teaching material. Computer room and materials and construction workshop.
