Emilio J. Cocinero completed his PhD in Physical Chemistry in 2005 at the University of Valladolid. In 2008, his thesis work was recognized with the Extraordinary Prize of the University of Valladolid. In 2006 he moved to the University of Oxford (United Kingdom) and worked with Prof. John P. Simons, a leading research group in the study of carbohydrates in the gas phase. In January 2009 he joined at the University of the Basque Country, where he leads a research group focused on solving various structural problems of chemistry at the atomic level, in particular, the study of biomolecules, including sugars, peptides and drugs, generated and stabilized in gas phase.
Dr. Cocinero (41 years old) has published 109 articles and a book chapter. With publications in the best scientific journals (Nature, Nature Commun., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., J. Am. Chem. Soc., ...). His career has been recognized with several national and international awards. Among them, the Flygare Prize (2005) stands out for its 'outstanding contributions in molecular spectroscopy by an early career independent scientist'. The international prize of the Barbara Mez-Starck Foundation (2018), first Spanish researcher and youngest researcher to obtain this award or the RSEQ award for his scientific career in 2012. In addition, Dr. Cocinero was the president of the Young Chemists Researchers of the RSEQ from 2014 to 2017.
