Description and Contextualization of the SubjectToggle Navigation

Heritage Management and Legislation is an elective course of six credits, which is taught to third and fourth year students of the Degree in History of Art. It does not require any special prerequisite and is intended to provide an approach to the field of cultural management and its areas of action, as well as to heritage legislation. We intend to show the different means and fields of intervention in which a cultural heritage manager can act and their employment possibilities.

Training objectives:

- To achieve a fundamental and sufficient knowledge of the management of heritage as well as of the legislation referring to this heritage.

- To achieve a sufficient knowledge to know the basic fundamentals of cultural heritage management as well as its legislation.

- To master the criteria for heritage management.



Competences:



Competences degree



- G002 To be able to classify and comment integrally (style and iconography) the different works of architecture, sculpture, painting, cinema, music and other arts in their historical and artistic moment with the specific languages of each artistic discipline.

- G004 Be able to analyze and interpret historical processes through the work of art as a relevant document of social and cultural history, together with other textual and material testimonies.

- G005 Be able to perform critical analysis of texts, documents and other materials on art-historical works and issues.

- G006 Be able to develop oral and written expression appropriate to a university degree and the discipline of art history.

- G007 Be able to relate and apply the specific knowledge of the degree to other areas and related disciplines.

- CM03 To provide the student with the necessary tools for the knowledge of a comprehensive and critical overview of the work in museums and other institutions of conservation, management and communication.

- Origin and concept of heritage

- Cultural heritage management

- Inventorying and cataloguing heritage

- Heritage interpretation as a means of dissemination

- Historical heritage and its legislation



Practical contents:



- Readings and analysis of different examples related to cultural heritage issues.

- Group work on a cultural heritage management project.

MethodologyToggle Navigation

Teaching-learning activities:



Theoretical sessions: The professor will present the fundamental theoretical contents of the subject.



Compulsory practical sessions according to current regulations:

- Practical sessions in the classroom: Students with the help of the teacher will analyze various practical examples of cultural heritage and will elaborate inventory and cataloging cards.

- Practical sessions of oral presentation of the group work on the indicated days.

- Practical sessions outside the classroom: Visits to artistic and documentary centers of interest.



Tutorials

- Due to the nature of the subject, a series of tutorials will be arranged in order to direct group and individual work.

- Directed personal work or study.

Ordinary Call: Orientations and DisclaimerToggle Navigation

The evaluation system of the course is CONTINUOUS. PASSING BOTH PARTS WILL BE NECESSARY TO PASS THE COURSE. The theoretical part will be evaluated by means of a written test (30%) and the practical part by means of different activities (%70) that are exposed below.

- Practical work (exercises, cases or problems) 30%.

- Team work (problem solving, project design): 30%.

- Oral defense: 10%.



Evaluation instrument: Written work and written test to be developed.



Written test criteria:



- Relevance and coherence of answers.

- Clear writing, with a correct use of written language.

- Correct systematic organization of the arguments presented and a synthetic expression.

- Mastery of the conceptual foundations and terminology used.



Evaluation criteria for the work:

- Systematic observation of the student's attitudes throughout the tutored elaboration of the work.

- Ability to organize and systematize the fundamental concepts of the subject.

- Analysis of the strategies used and how he/she solves the difficulties encountered in the elaboration process.

- Resolution of the activities and problems posed to them

- Express themselves clearly and correctly making adequate use of specific terminology.

- Ability to develop oral expression; Ability to use the specific language; Ability to organize the presentation of the work.

Criteria for practices:



Relevant and coherent expression of the specific concepts.

- Quality of bibliographical and documentary references.

- Clear, orderly and structured writing of the work.

- Adequate use of terminology.

- Adequate organization of the work.

- Critical and reflective posture.



In order to pass the course, both the practical and theoretical parts must be passed.





Students will have the right to be evaluated through the final evaluation system, regardless of whether or not they have participated in the continuous evaluation system. To do so, students must submit in writing to the teacher responsible for the subject the waiver of continuous assessment, for which they will have a period of 9 weeks, counting from the beginning of the term. The same one will be able to conform with all those tests that are considered necessary to reach the described competences.



Extraordinary Call: Orientations and DisclaimerToggle Navigation

The evaluation of the subjects in the extraordinary calls will be carried out exclusively through the final evaluation system in which the students will be able to obtain 100% of the grade. The final evaluation test of the extraordinary call will consist of all the exercises that are considered relevant to evaluate the competences of the subject.
