Description and Contextualization of the SubjectToggle Navigation

Spatial Planning is the discipline that, from a multidisciplinary point of view, pursues a balanced territorial development. It is a compulsory fourth-year subject with a course load of 9 ECTS. It is part of the Spatial Planning module (module 2 of the Degree in Geography and Spatial Planning). In the context of the Degree in Geography and Spatial Planning, there are several subjects focused on this field of action: Instruments of Spatial Planning, Environmental Legislation and Administration and Spatial Planning itself, among others. This battery of subjects will allow the study of the legal basis and the derived documents. The Spatial Planning subject will focus on the methodology on the basis of which the aforementioned Spatial Planning Documents are drawn up.

Within the skills included in the verified report of the Degree in Geography and Spatial Planning, the following would be especially applicable to this subject:

GENERAL SKILLS

G004 - Know, understand and interpret the territory and interrelate the physical environment with the social and human sphere.

G006 - Use geographical information as a means for the description, analysis, interpretation and planning of the territory. Expressing information cartographically, elaborating and interpreting statistical information. Use of ICTs in the analysis and communication of research results.

G007 - Carry out proposals for territorial planning and management, and for the location of services and activities.

SPECIFIC SKILLS

M02CM03 - Know the regulations, competences and legislation, the forms of processing and working procedures in spatial planning, as well as the hierarchy of the different administrative levels.

M02CM04 - Apply geographical knowledge to the analysis and diagnosis of the territory and its landscape.

M02CM05 - Estimate the carrying capacity of the territory and make proposals for the planning and location of uses and activities.

M02CM06 - Relate and synthesise transversal territorial information.

M02CM07 - Construct, propose and choose the necessary alternatives and proposals to alleviate weaknesses and take advantage of territorial strengths.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

RA2. Analyses the territory and its landscape and detects problems, weaknesses, strengths, threats, opportunities or possibilities for intervention.

RA3. Makes proposals for the location of uses and activities that make possible the choice of locations that are economically and environmentally adjusted to the carrying capacity of the territory and to what is established in the regulations.

RA4. Relates and synthesises transversal territorial information both orally, in writing and graphically.

RA5. Applies the techniques of spatial analysis and processing and representation of geographical information to solve practical cases of application to specific spaces.

MethodologyToggle Navigation

In the lectures, theoretical and methodological explanations will be given, which will later be used by the student to develop the practical activities. Most of the time in the classroom will be devoted to practical work in teams.

To achieve the learning outcomes, the student will have to develop the territorial and environmental diagnosis of a territory on a sub-regional scale and propose a sustainable territorial model based on the potentialities and weaknesses previously diagnosed. This Spatial Planning project, made up of the diagnosis and the proposals, will be in accordance with the content of the documents that make up the regulatory framework of Spatial Planning in the ACBC: the Spatial Planning Guidelines (DOT), the Sectorial Territorial Plans (PTS) and the Partial Territorial Plans (PTP), which will be analysed and evaluated from an environmental point of view as the project is developed.

As the work team completes each part of the project, they will present it publicly in the classroom, so that the feedback given by the teacher will allow them to improve what has been done and to channel the successive phases of the work appropriately.

Ordinary Call: Orientations and DisclaimerToggle Navigation

Continuous evaluation system: It will be graded through a theoretical-practical exam and the elaboration of practical work. It is mandatory to pass both the exam and the practical work. If one of the two parts of the course (exam or practical work) is passed in the ordinary exam, that part of the grade will be kept for the extraordinary exam (but not for the following academic year).

In the case of continuous evaluation, if the weight of the test is higher than 40% of the grade of the subject, it will be enough not to take the test for the final grade to be Not Presented. Otherwise, if the weight of the final test is equal to or less than 40% of the grade of the subject, the student may waive the call within a period that, at least, will be up to 30 days before the end date of the teaching period of the corresponding subject.

Final evaluation system: In any case, students will have the right to be evaluated through the final evaluation system, regardless of whether or not they have participated in the continuous evaluation system. To do so, students must submit in writing to the faculty responsible for the subject the waiver of continuous assessment, for which they will have a period of 9 weeks from the beginning of the classes of the subject (BOPV of March 13, 2017).

In the case of a final evaluation, failure to take the exam set on the official examination date will result in the automatic waiver of the corresponding call.

Extraordinary Call: Orientations and DisclaimerToggle Navigation

Students who do not pass the subject in the ordinary call, regardless of the evaluation system chosen therein, will have the right to take the exams and evaluation activities that make up the final evaluation test of the extraordinary call. .



1.- The evaluation of the subjects in the extraordinary calls will be carried out exclusively through the final evaluation system.



2.- The final evaluation test of the extraordinary call will consist of as many exams and evaluation activities as are necessary to be able to evaluate and measure the defined learning results, in a manner comparable to how they were evaluated in the ordinary call. The positive results obtained by the students during the course may be preserved. In the case of having obtained negative results through the continuous evaluation carried out during the course, these results cannot be maintained for the extraordinary call, in which the students will be able to obtain 100% of the grade.



*Failure to take the final test will result in resignation from the evaluation call and your grade will be Not Presented.
