Description and Contextualization of the SubjectToggle Navigation

The subject Lengua española II: Morfología y Sintaxis includes some of the most specialized content of the degree in Philology, specialty Hispanic Philology. The subject consists of three thematic blocks. The first, as an introduction, presents grammar as a linguistic discipline and establishes the relationship between morphology and syntax. The second and third blocks, as stated in the New Grammar of the Spanish Language, deal with the analysis of the internal structure of the words and their variations (morphology) and the analysis of the way in which they are combined and arranged hierarchically and linearly, as well as as well as the phrases they form (syntax).

CONTEXTUALIZATION

This subject is included in the module «Lengua española: Historia y Presente» required in the Hispanic Philology specialization. The module covers five subjects: Gramática y Semántica del Español, Análisis del Discurso en Español, Historia y Variación del Español, Latín y Mundo Neolatino, la Enseñanza del Español.

The subject in question is part of the «Gramática y Semántica del español» block, which addresses the description and analysis of the different levels or components of the grammar of the language (phonetic-phonological, morphological, syntactic and lexical) and the principles of semantic interpretation. The subject must be related, therefore, to Lengua Española I: Fonética y Fonología y con Lengua Española III: Lexicología y Semántica.

Skills/Learning outcomes of the subjectToggle Navigation

COMPETENCIES:

1. Critically review the grammatical knowledge acquired in previous educational stages (M10CM02).

2. To place grammar among the linguistic disciplines (M10CM02).

3. Master basic grammatical terminology (M10CM01).

4. Understand morphological and syntactic structures and relationships (M10CM01).

5. Know the main reference works on Spanish grammar(M10CM05).

6. Detect and correct grammatical errors (M10CM01 and M10CM02).

7. Write correct texts of different types (M10CM01).

8. Express with order, clarity and precision personal opinions and evaluations (M10CM01).

9.Describe and analyze the structures of Spanish (M10CM02).

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

The specific achievements that students will attain after successfully completing this subject are:

1. Identify the characteristics of the morphological level and its main parts, arguing about the similarities and differences between inflection and derivation. Students will recognize the processes of word formation, its internal structure, the syntactic projection of inflection and the features of nominal and verbal inflection.

2. Expose the tasks of syntactic theory and use the notions of grammatical category and syntagmatic category, to apply these concepts to the analysis of the syntax of Spanish.

3. Analyze the constituent structure of the Spanish sentence, identify the syntactic and semantic functions of sentence constituents, and describe the characteristics of the main types of Spanish sentence structures.

MethodologyToggle Navigation

The student's weekly activity will consist of:

1.- Reading the recommended information and that other information that he/she considers of interest to prepare the different sections of each of the topics.

2.- Works: the students will solve weekly, by means of the consultation of the recommended bibliography, the questions proposed at the beginning of the session.

3.- Oral presentation in class of the questions proposed for each session.

Assessment systemsToggle Navigation

  • Continuous Assessment System
  • Final Assessment System
  • Tools and qualification percentages:
    • Written test to be taken (%): 80
    • Realization of Practical Work (exercises, cases or problems) (%): 20

Ordinary Call: Orientations and DisclaimerToggle Navigation

The evaluation system in the ordinary call will be preferably that of CONTINUOUS EVALUATION.

The evaluation of the competences and knowledge of the students will be carried out, in general, by means of continuous evaluation based on:

A. CLASSROOM TEACHING

1. The daily completion of the different exercises that are proposed, the oral presentation of the questions raised and the participation in the debates in the classroom (CM02, CM01, CM05). This section will be graded with a score between 0 and 2 points (20%).

2. The realization in the classroom of written tests on different morphological and syntactic aspects worked on in the classroom. In no case should it be understood that these tests are a repetition of the exercises done in class (CM02).

These tests are compulsory. Failure to complete a test will be graded with 0 points. The grade of each student that will be recorded in the minutes will be the sum of the scores obtained throughout the formative period

in each of the two previous sections.

It will be understood that a student performs continuous evaluation when he/she attends any of the two evaluation tests set. The student will be able to renounce to the continuous evaluation by means of the presentation to the teacher of a written waiver, for which he/she will have a period of 9 weeks from the beginning of the course.

FINAL EVALUATION

On the dates of the exams proposed by the Center, the students who have waived the continuous evaluation will take a written test in the classroom that will be graded with a score between 0 and 10 points (100%) where the competences CM02, CM01, CM05 will be measured.

It will be understood that those who have chosen the final evaluation waive the evaluation when they do not show up for the test on the date proposed by the Center, in which case the grade of "Not presented" will appear in the minutes of the evaluation.

Extraordinary Call: Orientations and DisclaimerToggle Navigation

On the exam dates proposed by the Center in the month of June, students who were evaluated continuously or through a final exam and did not obtain a score of 5 or higher in the regular exam, or did not take any type of evaluation, will take a written test in the classroom that will be graded with a score between 0 and 10 points (100%).

It will be understood that the student waives the extraordinary exam when he/she does not take the test on the exam date proposed by the Center, in which case the grade of "Not presented" will be the official grade.

During the development of the different evaluation tests, the use of books, notes or notes, as well as telephone, electronic, computer or other devices will be prohibited.
