Description and Contextualization of the SubjectToggle Navigation

The subject "German Language V" is a compulsory subject taught in the first term of the 3rd year. It is a continuation of German Language III and IV (level B1+).

The contents corresponding to level B2 of German according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) will be covered.

With a communicative and inductive approach and encouraging autonomous and group learning, the four language skills (comprehension of written and oral texts, writing and speaking) will be worked on.

Communication between teacher and students will be exclusively in German.



Skills/Learning outcomes of the subjectToggle Navigation

This subject aims to enable students to reconstruct information and arguments from different sources in spoken or written German and to present them in a coherent and summarised way (M02CM02; G005 and G006), to express themselves spontaneously, both orally and in writing, with great fluency and with a degree of precision that allows them to differentiate small nuances of meaning even in particularly complex situations and contexts (M02CM03; G001 and G006) as well as learning and working autonomously and in a team (G005) with the aim of applying the knowledge acquired in their future professional activity (teaching, translation, editing and others (M04CM02; G008).

As a result of learning, learners will be able to

• understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation.

• interact so fluently and spontaneously that communication with native speakers is possible without great effort on either side.

• express themselves clearly and in detail on a wide range of subjects, as well as give their point of view on a given topical issue, indicating the advantages and disadvantages of different options.

Communicative content: expressing an opinion and asking the opinion of a third party; proposing, advising and recommending something; expressing agreement, doubts and rejection; providing arguments for or against; interrupting the speaking turn; making forecasts and suppositions; presenting research results; describing images, graphs and statistics; structuring an argumentative text in writing or orally; presenting the agenda of a meeting; summarising and evaluating a text.

Grammar contents: Wortstellung im Satz; Negation; Vergleichssätze mit als/wie und je ... desto/umso; das Wort es; ein- und zweiteilige Konnektoren; Relativsätze mit wer; Modalsätze; Passiv und Passiversatzformen; Indefinitpronomen.

MethodologyToggle Navigation

In this subject, a communicative and inductive approach will be used to induce the use of the German language in an authentic context and to encourage the spirit of research and work - autonomous and in teams - through projects, oral presentations, debates, tasks and exercises to be carried out (transversal competences G005, G006 and G008).

The method of Lernen durch Lehren (Learning by Learning), in which students become the protagonists and the main responsible for their own learning process, and the technique of Error Analysis and Correction will also be used.

Ordinary Call: Orientations and DisclaimerToggle Navigation

A) Continuous assessment: applicable to students who attend class regularly (max. five absences). The competences will be assessed by means of the following instruments, each one being assigned the percentage of the final mark indicated:

1. Active participation in class: 10%*.

2. Completion/submission of assignments (essays, transcripts, film summaries, grammar exercises and tests, etc.) on time: 20%*.

3. Oral presentation: 30%*.

4. Final written test consisting of a listening comprehension exercise, grammar exercises and an essay: 40%*.

* The student must successfully pass all four parts in order to pass the course as a whole. Otherwise, the final grade will be the grade obtained in the failed part(s).

Assessment criteria: Level of mastery and application of the knowledge acquired; grammatical and spelling accuracy; capacity for argumentation and expression; active participation in class; compliance with the rules of presentation (written assignments, oral presentation with powerpoint). Late submissions will not be corrected or assessed.

Formative assessment will be carried out by means of guidance to improve the tasks performed, in the awareness that mistakes are part of the learning process, and the progress achieved during the course will be especially valued.

B) Final assessment: applicable to students who cannot follow the continuous assessment or who have waived it in writing to the subject teacher no less than 10 days before the start date of the official examination period.

The competences will be assessed by means of the following instruments, each of which will be assigned the percentage of the final mark indicated:

1. Oral examination: 40%*.

2. Written test consisting of a listening comprehension exercise, grammar exercises and an essay: 60%*.

* The student must successfully pass both parts in order to pass the course. Otherwise, the final grade will be the grade obtained in the failed part.

Assessment criteria: Level of mastery and application of the knowledge acquired; grammatical and spelling accuracy; ability to argue and express oneself orally and in writing.

In order to withdraw from the call, it is sufficient not to take the final test.



Extraordinary Call: Orientations and DisclaimerToggle Navigation

Students who have successfully passed any of the assessment tools in the ordinary exam session will be subject - in the first extraordinary exam session - to continuous assessment, maintaining the grades of the parts passed in the ordinary exam session. Unless the student expressly indicates otherwise.

In order to withdraw from the call, it is sufficient not to take the final test.
