Description and Contextualization of the SubjectToggle Navigation

The subject will present the basic contents of phonetics and phonology as a discipline in such a way that the fundamental phonetic features of the Basque language can be understood, in order to train the student for the exercise of linguistics and , specifically phonological analysis. Special emphasis will be placed on the acquisition of the necessary mental skills and the correct use of terminology.

Theoretical and practical contentToggle Navigation

1. Introduction. Study of phonetics and phonology.

2. The sounds of the language. Articulation.

3. The sounds of the language. Acoustics.

4. The ear.

5. The sounds of Basque and its varieties.

6. Prosody.

7. Introduction to the experimental study.

MethodologyToggle Navigation

In this subject the theoretical and practical aspects will be worked on, sometimes in the same session, but in others special sessions will be held to work on the practical aspect. The master class will be used to teach the theoretical part, always accompanied and interspersed with exercises to develop the practical part.

A case methodology will also be used to work on the subject and will be developed through group work during the course.

Student participation in class exercises or class debates will be valued.

Students will be able to obtain information from the teacher through the eGela platform. Students will be able to access material for class through eGela, such as texts, readings, programs, etc. Likewise, notes, news, modifications, etc. will be made known through the eGela platform.

The most important exercises can be found in the book "Euskal Fonetika eta Fonologia lantzeko ariketak".

    • Written test to be taken (%): 40
    • Realization of Practical Work (exercises, cases or problems) (%): 10

The evaluation will be continuous and throughout the course the following tests will be carried out and passed:

- Team work

- Written test

- Exercises

Group work must be developed throughout the course, delivering specific work by specific deadlines.

The written test will be held in January. The exercises will be met in class.

If there are any changes, it will be indicated in class and will also be communicated through eGela.



In the event that the student wishes to waive continuous evaluation, he or she must present the corresponding document to the teacher during the first nine weeks.

If the evaluation is carried out through the final test, the following tests must be taken and passed:

- written work

- written test



If the student wish to waive the ordinary call, it will be sufficient not to do the exam.
