Description and Contextualization of the SubjectToggle Navigation
The content of the subject is an introduction to the analysis and resolution of building frame structures. The teaching approach used is simple: structures calculation’s theory must be learned by practice.
With this point of view, its content is mainly practical. In these classes student we teach a reduced amount of theoretical concepts (which are nonetheless very important) exposed in a short an easy manner. And to consolidate these concepts, we provide a large amount of practical exercises.
At the end of the course the main concepts we need to use matrix calculation software are exposed.

G001 – To know architectural theories and history, as well as fine arts, technologies and human sciences related to it
G004 – To understand the problems of structural conception, construction and engineering related to building projects as well as problem solving techniques

LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE SUBJECT
To distinguish between external loads and inner strengths in structures
To explain how external forces and reactions are distributed through the structure
To calculate the value of the strengths acting on a bar by analysing the cross section in two-dimensional frames
To Analyse how strengths deform the cross section
To define Axial, Shear, Bending and Torsional strength diagrams.
To draw the inner strength diagrams of isostatic and hyperstatic diagrams.
To draw approximately the deformation of a bar working under bending moment, by using the relationship between bending moment and curvature

CONTINIOUS EVALUATION
The continuous evaluation consist in 2 partial exams that the student must pass. If the average mark is higher than 5, the student will pass the evaluation. The student must have a minimum mark of 4 out off 10 in each partial exam
FINAL EXAM
Apart from the continuous evaluation, the student can pass the subject by passing a final exam that takes place in the end of the academic semester.

For the development of this subject, the student doesn’t need to use the laboratories of the School
