He studied Art History at Complutense University in Madrid (1991). He has been Professor of the Department of Art History and Music at the UPV/EHU since 1998. He teaches at the Degree of Art History at the Faculty of Letters in Vitoria and in the Experience Senior University of Gipuzkoa in San SebastiƔn, teaching various subjects focused on the study of medieval art: Art History of the High Middle Ages, Art History of the Low Middle Ages and Medieval Spanish Art.
His research work has focused mainly on the analysis of the iconography of the miracle in the medieval pictorical Gothic hispanic altarpieces and around the analysis of the medieval heritage of the Basque Country, having published different academic contributions about these topics on both areas.
Moreover, he has completed two research stays at the Warburg Institute of Iconography at the University of London.
He has participated in different research projects of the University of the Basque Country and has given several lectures in courses and seminars, conferences and congresses on History of Medieval Art.
