Description and Contextualization of the SubjectToggle Navigation

The subject “Sources of Art History” is one of the basic subjects of the 4th year of the Degree in Art History and it is taught during the second four-month period. It is part of the module called “Theory and Iconography of the Arts”, which also includes the subjects Theory of Art, Iconography and History of Aesthetic Ideas. This course develops the study of the Sources of Art History, which serves to analyze all types of documents generated during the History of Art. Given its practical and applied nature, it should serve as a support to any subject that requires the study of the sources and written documents of any artistic period.

The work that will be developed in this subject will allow students to recognize any written or visual document of a given artistic period. In order to develop “Sources of Art History” without excessive difficulty, students must have an adequate knowledge of the rest of the subjects.

The subject provides the future graduate with essential knowledge for the handling of all types of documentary sources to develop any subsequent research work.
