Description and Contextualization of the SubjectToggle Navigation

Museology and Museography is a basic subject of 2nd degree that is taken in the first four-term. Its aim is to offer an approach to the world of museums, and should be taught by the students of Art History. The aim of the course is to identify and analyse the characteristics of museums, their purposes and their activities. The practical part will be of great importance in the organization of the programme.

(T) CMO1. Understand the current theoretical foundations of museology and heritage conservation.



(E) CM03. To provide the student with the necessary tools for the knowledge of a comprehensive and critical overview of the work in museums and other conservation, management and communication institutions.







(E) CA01. Identify and analyze the basic knowledge of museology and museography, handling with a critical spirit the most relevant bibliography.



(E) CA02. Analyze the basic functions and activities of a museum, as well as its different areas and their interrelation.



(E) CA03. Develop an adequate oral and written expression, incorporating the particular elements of museology into the discourse.

MethodologyToggle Navigation

Teaching-learning activities:



1.Lecture-theoretical sessions: The professor will present the fundamental theoretical contents of the subject, the classroom practices and visits and the student's personal work.



2.Compulsory practical sessions according to current regulations:

Practical sessions in the classroom: The students with the help of the teacher will analyze and comment museums and museum activities according to some schemes that will be provided in class.



3. Tutorials

- Given the practical character of this subject and the programmed activities that we have indicated, it is recommended to the student to make use of this teaching activity.



4. Non-attendance activities

- Non-attendance practices:

- Visits to museums

- Individual personal work of preparation of the practical classes.

- Preparation by the student of the objective written test.

Ordinary Call: Orientations and DisclaimerToggle Navigation

Evaluation instrument: Written test to be developed. Percentage of the final grade: 50%.



Several practical assignments. Percentage of the final grade: 50%.



In order to pass the course in the first call, it will be necessary to pass both the written exam and the proposed practical work.



Students will have the right to be evaluated through the final evaluation system, regardless of whether or not they have participated in the continuous evaluation system. To do so, students must submit in writing to the teacher responsible for the subject the waiver of continuous assessment, for which they will have a period of 9 weeks, counting from the beginning of the term.

However, both the critical presentation of a museum and the creation of a new museum are essential tests to pass the course.

Extraordinary Call: Orientations and DisclaimerToggle Navigation

The evaluation of the subjects in the extraordinary call will be carried out exclusively through the final evaluation system in which the students will be able to obtain 100% of the grade. The final evaluation test of the extraordinary call will consist of as many exams and evaluation activities as necessary to evaluate and measure the defined learning outcomes, in a manner comparable to how they were evaluated in the ordinary call.
