Graduated in Industrial Engineering, University Politécnica de Valencia (1988), honoured as Graduation Special Award; Doctor in Industrial Engineering, University de Navarra (1993) with the Thesis entitled: “Analysis of sound deformation and critical failure conditions in the extrusion of bimetallic tubes”. After his University graduation, he spent 1988 to 1989 as an Associated Professor at the University Politécnica de Valencia and then worked as an Assistant Professor at the University de Navarra from 1989 to 1993. At that point, he moved to the University del País Vasco, located in Bilbao, where he has served as Professor Titular to this date. His academic work is focussed on the field of Continuum Mechanics and Theory of Structures, teaching subjects such as Elasticity and Strength of Materials; Theory of Plasticity and Applications; Elastic, Plastic and Viscous Material Behaviour, and Nonlinear Material Behaviour. His research work has centered on the analysis of materials forming processes and the metallic plastic deformation. He has published a number of papers in scientific journals and contributed to half a hundred Conferences and Symposiums. He has tutored five doctoral thesis on forming and mechanical behavior, as well as in other more original fields such as the history of the Strength of Materials and the modelling of dental implants. He is a member of several organizations, such as the European Mechanics Society.
