Abbreviated CV
Degree in Science, speciality in Industrial Chemistry (UPV/EHU, 1994) and PhD in Chemical Engineering (UPV/EHU, 1999), both awarded excellence prizes at the UPV/EHU.
My professional career has always developed at the UPV/EHU. In 1997 I started as assistant lecturer at the University School of Industrial Technical Engineering in Bilbao, and in 2000 I moved to the Faculty of Science and Technology, where I currently hold a position as Full Professor. I have lectured on most of the subjects related to Chemical Engineering, and for the last ten years I have been involved in the subjects “Mass Transfer” and “Modelling, Simulation and Optimization of Chemical Processes”.
Between 2009 and 2011 I was Vice Dean of Teaching Planning, being responsible for the teaching procedure (EFQM Management Model recognized with the Silver Q), and from 2013 to 2021 I led the Department of Chemical Engineering. I was member of the first AUDIT Committee of the Faculty of Science and Technology for the Accreditation of the Internal Quality Assurance System, and from 2016 member of the University Commission for Teaching Evaluation. For several years I participated in the Committee of Experts of the Directorate of Research (belonging to the Ministry of Science and Innovation). I am manuscript reviewer for several international indexed journals and project evaluator for ANEP (Spain), AGAE (Andalusia) and FONCyT (Argentina).
Author of 110 publications, 90 being JCR indexed articles (h = 34, WoS) and ten patents, I have participated as lead researcher or collaborator in 46 competitive research projects financed by the Basque Government, Spanish Ministries and the European Union, and in 27 research contracts with private companies (Energroup, Total Petrochemical, Novattia, Lantec, Johnson Matthey, BLC3 Association or Maxam Corp.). I have been supervisor of ten PhD theses and co-funder of Spouted Bed Solutions Ltd., an start-up company, created in 2020. My research work has focused on the development of new gas/solid contact technologies, valorisation of waste by thermochemical methods and hydrocyclone separators.
