Biography

Mikel Alberro Astarbe studied Industrial Technical Engineering in Industrial Electronics (1998) and Industrial Organization Engineering (2007), both at the current School of Engineering of Gipuzkoa (UPV/EHU). He studied the PhD program in Communications, Electronics and Control (2007-2009 biennium) and obtained the Diploma of Advanced Studies in Electronic Technology (2009) at the School of Engineering of Bilbao, University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). He carried out the doctoral thesis in Control, Automation and Robotics Engineering, Title: "Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy as a diagnostic tool in the operation and characterization of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC)" (2017), obtaining the mention of Doctor Cum Laude under the direction of Dr. Florencio Fernández Marzo. He has worked as a researcher in the Applied Electronics Research Group (APERT) between the years 2011-2014. He has worked as a researcher in the Engineering and Society and Bioengineering Research Group (ELEKIN) between the years 2019-2021. He has collaborated as a researcher in the Biorefinery Processes Processes group led by Dr. Jalel Labidi, between the years 2019-2021, since July 2022 he is a member of the group. He has participated in the development of different national and international funded projects (9), has participated in different national and international congresses (4 scientific congresses and 2 teaching congresses) and is author of 4 articles that have been published in indexed journals (h-index:4, 32 citations). He has directed several final degree projects.

Research

Currently, he is University Professor in the Department of Electronic Technology at the School of Engineering of Gipuzkoa (UPV/EHU). Nowadays, his research lines are focused on experimental corrosion tests using DC and AC electrochemical techniques (Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy, EIS).
