Leyre Sillero
(Biorefinery Processes)
Biography
Leyre Sillero graduated in Industrial Chemical Engineering at UPV/EHU in 2013. Afterwards, he completed a Master's degree in Environmental Engineering at UPV/EHU (2016), and in 2017, she started her PhD in Renewable Materials Engineering thanks to a pre-doctoral grant awarded by the Department of Economic Development and Competitiveness of the Basque Government. She completed his PhD under the supervision of Dr. Labidi and Dr. Raquel Prado at the School of Engineering of Gipuzkoa (UPV/EHU) in the field of lignocellulosic biomass valorisation (2021), with the title: Biomolecules extraction from forest biomass. Then, he continued his professional career linked to the valorisation of lignocellulosic biomass as a R&D&I project technician at CETIM Foundation Technological Centre. She is currently holding a Margarita Salas fellowship given by the UPV/EHU and financed by the European Union-Next Generation EU in Biorefinery Processes group (BioRP).
Research
Her research focuses mainly on the valorisation of lignocellulosic biomass to obtain high added-value biocompounds with a variety of potential applications. For this purpose, she has studied different techniques, ranging from the intensification of processes using microwaves and/or ultrasound, to the use of new solvents such as ionic liquids or deep eutectic solvents.
