CAREER

Tenured professor in the Department of Contemporary History of the UPV/EHU since 1998, where he has developed his teaching and research activity since the year 1995.

Degree in Geography and History from Deusto University (1986) and PhD in Geography and History from the UPV/EHU (1993).

Professor in the Faculty of Letters (Vitoria-Gasteiz Campus of the UPV/EHU) from 1996 to 2012, and in the Faculty of Social and Communication Sciences from that year to the present. Together with his teaching work on undergraduate courses, he has also taught on the doctoral program of the Department of Contemporary History and the Interuniversity Master of this department and other Masters of the same university. His teaching career has been positively evaluated with four teaching quinquennia. His long teaching experience has resulted in the publication of manuals and other teaching materials for the subject “History of Today’s World”.

He develops his research activity in the consolidated research group “Biography & Parliament”, specialising in research lines dealing with the analysis of nationalism from the perspective of the subject, elites through collective biography, prosopographical analysis, and the institutions of the contemporary Basque Country.

He has participated in 30 research projects and contracts. He is the author or co-author of 40 publications, including books, book chapters and articles.

His research career has been positively evaluated with three research sexennia (1989-2015).

He has been a member of the editorial council of the journal Bidebarrieta since 2009.

He is a referee for the journals Revista de Estudios Políticos, Vasconia, Clio&Crimen and Bidebarrieta.

In the management field he was Secretary of the Department of Contemporary History between 2010 and 2017.

He is a member of the International Commission for the History of the Representative and Parliamentary Institutions, the Asociación de Historia Contemporánea and the Asociación de Historiadores del Presente.
