PhD Thesis Defence

On 7th April 2017 Constantino G. Roldán Paraponiaris defended his PhD Thesis – A method for the Mechatronic Analysis of Parallel Kinematics Manipulators Based on Decoupling the Dynamics of Actuators and Mechanism. Fran Campa has been the Advisor of the PhD Thesis and the jury was formed by Oscar Altuzarra and Alfonso Hernández from the University of the Basque Country (Spain), B. Corves from the IGM – RWTH Aachen (Germany), Vicente Mata from the Polytechnic University in Valencia (Spain) and Andrés Keckskemethy from the University of Duisburg-Essen (Germany).

 

               

 

 

Visit from the IGM – RWTH Aachen

We have the pleasure to receive this week the visit of the Director of the Department and the Academic Director of the IGM – RWTH Aachen ,Univ.-Prof.Dr.-Ing. Dr.h.c.Burkhard Corves and Dr.-Ing. M. Hüsing, respectively. During their visit, they will offer us a talk about the current work of the IGM-RWTH Aachen on Thursday 6th April 2017 at 16:30 at the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Faculty of Engineering, Bilbao). Besides, we will have the opportunity to talk about current projects of both research groups as well as possible future collaborations.

Open houses

Like every year, the Faculty of Engineering in Bilbao is organizing open houses these days and COMPMECH research group is collaborating by explaining to future students what the study of mechanisms consist of and what future students will learn about them during their studies.

It is always a pleasure to meet future students and encourage them to join our University.

 

Talk on Collaborative Robots and their Applications

This morning, Fran Campa and Javier Corral have attended the talk Robots Colaborativos y sus aplicaciones (Collaborative Robots and their applications) organized by IK4-TEKNIKER, SCHUNK, SICK and UNIVERSAL ROBOTS. The talk has taken place in the morning of 9th March in the offices of IK4-TEKNIKER, in Eibar (Gipuzkoa, Spain).

It has been an interesting talk focussed on the different applications of collaborative robots, including also the exposition of several equipments.

 

MTM & Robotics 2016

The Joint International Conference of  the XII International Conference on Mechanisms and Mechanical Transmissions (MTM) and the XXIII International Conference on Robotics (Robotics’16) will be held in Aachen (Germany) from the 26th to the 27th October, 2016.

In this Conference COMPMECH will present the following paper:

MAMM 2016

The 4th Conference on Microactuators and Micromechanisms (MAMM 2016) is taking place in Ilmenau (Germany) from 5th to 7th October.

Fran Campa is there to present the paper entitled Dynamic model of a compliant 3PRS parallel mechanism for micromilling.

 

OPEN POSITIONS: COMPMECH research group has two grants for new PhD students.

COMPMECH research group has two grants for grad students interesting in continuing their studies as a PhD student. The grants last for 4 years and are related to two research projects financed by the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad.

  1. Compliant parallel manipulators, MEDUSA (DPI2015-64450-R)

MEDUSA research project is directed by Professor Oscar Altuzarra and Professor Fran Campa. The project is focused on the study and manufacture of compliant parallel mechanisms. In this type of mechanisms, the end-effector movement is obtained by the deformation of the elements of the mechanism and not by means of the ordinary kinematics joints. It is a multidisciplinary project, in which the theoretical kinematics and dynamics models of the mechanisms will be developed, also specific materials will be selected and tested attending to their rigidity-deformation properties, and finally, control algorithms will be programmed to actuate the final prototypes. PhD Students dedicated to this project will work in a dynamic environment, developing their research in a new field of study of mechanics and kinematics.

  1. Modular design of reconfigurable parallel manipulators with variable topology, MoMaR (DPI2015-67626-P).

The MoMaR research project is leaded by Prof. Víctor Petuya and Prof. Alfonso Hernández. The target is to develop multioperational systems in such a way that the robots can change their configuration to execute multiple tasks. So the main objective of the project is to develop a methodology for modular design of reconfigurable parallel manipulators with variable topology. The project developments will result in a software tool intended to help the design and analysis of this type of mechanisms. Finally, making the most of the knowledge acquired during this project a prototype of reconfigurable parallel manipulator with high-capacity of reconfigurability will be built. To carry out this project, the research group is equipped with data acquisition and computation servers belonging to the Mechanical Engineering Department of the UPV/EHU, having also an Interdepartmental Laboratory equipped with a broad range of materials for prototype building and testing.
