RENATUR PROJECT: Improving regional policies to better protect the natural heritage of peri-urban open spaces

The UNESCO Chair´s researchers take part in the the RENATUR Europe project: Improving regional policies to better protect the natural heritage of peri-urban open spaces. The project’s aim is to improve regional policies to protect peri-urban open spaces (PUOS), which play a vital role in the protection of natural heritage. The project will run from August 2019 to July 2023.

Within the framework of the RENATUR project, examples of policy instruments for best practice relating to the protection of natural heritage in PUOS will be identified, analysed and transferred. These policy instruments should serve to maintain or increase the quality of the PUOS by strengthening their biodiversity, protecting their ecosystems, preventing their fragmentation and promoting green infrastructure and ecosystem services.

This is an inter-regional cooperation project which the University of the Basque Country / Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (UPV/EHU) is participating in through the UNESCO Chair, together with the following European institutions: Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (Germany), the Flemish Land Agency (Belgium), the Ministry of Regional Development and Transport of Saxony-Anhalt (Germany), Hajdú-Bihar County Government (Hungary), Mazovia Development Agency Plc (Poland) and BSC, Business Support Centre Ltd, Kranj (SIovenia).
