On 8 June, the UNESCO Chair participated in the ‘PLASTIC SEA’ seminar organised by the PIE and the Chair in Scientific Culture at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), in collaboration with the COBE, the Surfrider Foundation and the Urdaibai Ekoetxea (Eco-house), at the UPV/EHU’s Bizkaia Aretoa in Bilbao. The seminar was scheduled to coincide with World Oceans Day and the UNESCO Chair’s participation took the form of a paper entitled “Pasemos de ser actores a autores de cambio: clave para nuestro bienestar”.

In the paper, Igone Palacios illustrated the importance of both individual and collective decisions in our effort to redress the current situation and enable aquatic ecosystems to continue providing society with a flow of benefits that contribute in no small measure to our wellbeing.
