DEVELOPMENT STUDIES ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE: NEW LEADERSHIP FOR GLOBAL CHALLENGES

María Viota, habitual collaborator with the UNESCO CHAIR, participated in this year’s annual conference of the Development Studies Association (DSA2020), organised under the slogan ‘New leadership for global challenges’. The conference addressed the various different challenges that have emerged in relation to issues such as the climate emergency, inequality, poverty, violence and health.

The conference included an oral presentation entitled ‘Contribution of urban green spaces to city dwellers’ health in the Basque Country (Spain): towards guiding a sustainable and inclusive urban planning’, which outlined the results of the work currently under way to determine the contributions made by green urban infrastructure to the health of the Basque population within the framework of the Basque Ecosystem Services Project. Moreover, representatives from the Basque Country participated alongside expert panellists and young researchers in a debate on how environmental issues impact people’s livelihoods and wellbeing. Topics analysed included the common aspects of the different contexts presented, with a view to highlighting new key issues linked to global sustainability.
