PUBLIC PARTICIPATION ABOUT THE 3rd CYCLE OF HYDROLOGICAL PLANNING 2021-2017

From 3 to 12 March 2020, the Basque Water Agency (URA) organised a series of participatory workshops designed to approve the Outline of Important Themes (OITs) of the third cycle of hydrological planning within the Eastern Bay of Biscay River Basin.

Researchers from the UNESCO Chair attended the meetings organised on 3 and 11 March on ‘Environmental Restoration and Improvement’ and ‘Pollution’ (respectively). After the presentation and contextualisation of the OITs by representatives from URA, a series of participatory activities were carried out in which participants divided up into smaller groups to debate certain issues. During this activity, researchers from the UNESCO Chair were able to express their opinions regarding possible improvements in the field of Nature-Based Solutions, which aim to achieve the Environmental Goals for the bodies of water located within the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country, thereby improving the capacity of the Ecosystem Services provided by water-based ecosystems.
