Description and Contextualization of the SubjectToggle Navigation

The main objective of the subject is that the student could know the different constructive phases: start, development and finish of a Building Site, according to their future professional competences. But once the site is finished, a building needs to be maintained, preserved and rehabilitated along its Lifecycle, in which the future professional Architect will be involved.

The subject is organised like the continuation of the subject Building Process I so the student could understand the whole building process, from the idea to the end of its Lifecycle. The different topics are organised in three different blocks:

1. Site Management

In this block there will be studied the obligations and liabilities of the Architect and other Agents invloved in the building process, just before starting the site, during it and once the site is finished

2. Maintainance and Technical Building Inspection

Once the site is finished and the building ready to be used, its Lifecycle starts. Buildings must be used according to the use they have been designed for and they must be maintained and checked periodically. In this block there will be studied the general maintaining measures as well as the oficial protocols to inspect any building: The Technical Building Inspection

3. Buildings Rehabilitation

Buildings along their Lifecycle will suffer different pathologies, even their maintenance is correct. In this block there will be introduced the more common pathologies, their diagnosis and several solutions to solve them.

MethodologyToggle Navigation

The subject is divided into two parts, theory and practice. The statement and the content of the practice work and different exercises will be given at the beginning of the course.

Assessment systemsToggle Navigation

  • Final Assessment System
  • Tools and qualification percentages:

    • Realization of Practical Work (exercises, cases or problems) (%): 20
    • Team projects (problem solving, project design)) (%): 50

Ordinary Call: Orientations and DisclaimerToggle Navigation

Orientations

To pass the subject in the call of January it will be compulsory, at least, to do the final exam and to deliver all the exercises included in the practice part. All those students that do not deliver all the exercises, included in the practice part, can not do the final exam. Other practice works and exercises developed in classroom will not be compulsory but they will be marked and valued with the 20% of the final mark.

The different percentages for each part are:

- Final individual written exam 30%. Minimum mark required: 5 points out of 10.

- Individual and team practice work (case studies, solving problems and project designing) 50%. Minimum mark required: 5 points out of 10

Resignation

Not doing the final exam or not delivering any of the team practice works involves the resignation to the subject in the call considered. So the student will appear in the official act like Not Presented.

Extraordinary Call: Orientations and DisclaimerToggle Navigation

Orientations

Students that have not passed the subject in the call of January:

There are three possible situations

-

The exam is passed but the team practice work is not passed

The mark of the exam is kept, they do not have to do it again, but they must improve the practice work in order to get on it a mark of 5 points out of 10. The exam will be the 50% of the final average whereas the practice work will be the 50%.

- The exam is not passed but team practice work is passed

The mark of the practice work is kept, they do not have to do it again, but they must do the exam again in order to get on it a mark of 5 points out of 10. The exam will be the 50% of the final average divided in two parts theory (30%) and practice (20%), whereas the practice work will be the 50%. I

- Neither the exam nor team practice work are passed

They must do the exam again in order to get on it a mark of 5 points out of 10. In addition, they must improve the practice work in order to get on it a mark of 5 points out of 10. In case of not having delivered the practice work during the term they must do it individually. The exam will be the 50% divided in two parts theory (30%) and practice (20%) of the final average, whereas the practice work will be the 50%.

Resignation

Not doing the final exam or not delivering any of the team practice works involves the resignation to the subject in the call considered. So the student will appear in the official act like Not Presented.
