I got my degree in English Philology from the University of the Basque Country in 1988, where I became a teaching associate in 1989. I did work towards my PhD on conditionals and the focus particles only and even, and participated in four research projects (1994-2001) on subordination, tense and aspect, and various aspects of utterance interpretation. In 1991 I visited University College London, where I became more familiar with relevance theory, the framework for most of my published as well as unpublished papers. I also studied the experimental psychology of conditional reasoning. I participated in conferences and did courses both in Spain and abroad, especially in England. In 2000 I organised three Basque Government GARATU courses. Finally, I have translated academic papers, mainly in linguistics, philosophy and history, and volumes II (765 pp., 1999) and III (815 pp., 2018) of the History of the University in Europe series (Cambridge University Press) from English into Spanish for the UPV-EHU.

In the early 2000s I began to focus on teaching. In 2002 I got tenure as a lecturer, which meant an increase in my teaching load. I currently teach History of the English Language, World English and Pragmatics. In 2002-03 I became an online tutor for English Studies at UNED Bizkaia. My career as a teacher has been very satisfactory personally: I have put my heart and soul into what I like best – English – and I have enjoyed the company of many students.
