Below are the Learning Outcomes and Competencies that you should work on and acquire when studying Power Electronics. Firstly, the learning results, as they appear in the ANECA Verified Report of the degree. Subsequently, the competencies that are developed in a more specific way in the subject to achieve these learning results will be indicated. The competencies indicated are found within the Qualification Competencies section in the Report Verified by ANECA, within the block of 3rd year subjects.
Learning results of the subject (Verified report)
RA1-Know the different applications of power electronics.
RA2-Know the different applications of the elements used in electrical engineering.
RA3-Design and analyze power electronics systems.
RA4-Train the student to simulate and implement power electronics systems.
Within the block of General and Transversal Competencies of the Degree (verified report), the Power Electronics subject develops more specifically the following competencies:
C3-Knowledge in basic and technological subjects that enables them to learn new methods and theories, and gives them the versatility to adapt to new situations.
C4-Ability to solve problems with initiative, decision making, creativity, critical reasoning and to communicate and transmit knowledge, skills and abilities in the field of industrial engineering, specific industrial electronic and automatic technology.
C5-Knowledge to carry out measurements, calculations, valuations, appraisals, appraisals, studies, reports, work plans and other similar work.
C10-*Ability to work in a multilingual and multidisciplinary environment
C13-*Apply the strategies of scientific methodology: analyze the problematic situation qualitatively and quantitatively, propose hypotheses and solutions using the models of industrial engineering, industrial and automatic electronic specialty.

Topic 1. Introduction to Power Electronics. In this topic, power electronics, its control and its scope of application will be defined.
Topic 2. Classification of the different types of electronic power converters.
Topic 3. Power electronic devices. Command and control elements.
Topic 4. Harmonic analysis of the electronic transformation of energy. Quality parameters of the electrical supply network.
Topic 5. Control of the transformation of Alternating-Continuous energy (Rectifiers or AC-DC Converters). Controlled and uncontrolled polyphase rectifiers
Topic 6. Control of Alternating-Alternating energy transformation (AC-AC Regulators). Definition of the different AC-AC converters. Practical study of static starters.
Topic 7. Control of Continuous-Continuous energy transformation (DC-DC Converters). Definition and study of the different DC-DC converters, both isolated and non-isolated.
Topic 8. Control of continuous-alternating energy transformation (DC-AC inverters or converters). Analysis of the different types of investors. Modulation techniques and harmonic analysis.
Topic 9. Speed regulation of electric machines. Study of speed control of alternating current and direct current machines.
Topic 10. Renewable energy sources. Control of electronic power converters integrated in generation systems based on renewable energy sources.
MethodologyToggle Navigation
To achieve the learning objectives of the subject, in addition to the master classes, classroom practices and laboratory practices, a series of collaborative work activities and other personal work activities will be carried out.
In the event that health conditions prevent the carrying out of a face-to-face teaching activity, a non-face-to-face modality will be activated of which students will be promptly informed.
Assessment systemsToggle Navigation
The subject has an established continuous evaluation method, so class attendance is necessary. In the event that health conditions prevent a face-to-face teaching activity and the completion of an in-person evaluation, a non-face-to-face modality will be activated of which students will be promptly informed.
Written exams and tests will have a weight of 60% on the final grade, and project reports, tasks and deliverables will have a weight of 40%.
Failure to take the written exam will result in a grade of "not presented"
Students will have the right to be evaluated through the final evaluation system, regardless of whether or not they have participated in the continuous evaluation system. To do this, students must submit in writing to the teaching staff responsible for the subject the waiver of continuous evaluation, for which they will have a period of 9 weeks counting from the beginning of the semester or course respectively, in accordance with the academic calendar of the course.
