In 2007, I graduated in Chemical Engineering at the Science and Technology Faculty of UPV/EHU. I then joined the Catalytic Processes and Waste Valorization (CPWV) research group as a pre-doctoral researcher. I completed my PhD in 2012 on hydrogen production by steam reforming of bio-oil. Following my Ph.D., I continued my research career with several postdoctoral contracts, including a project of Johnson-Matthey Company. In 2015, I was awarded the UPV/EHU postdoctoral fellowship for two years, and since October 2016, I have combined my postdoctoral research with teaching several chemical engineering subjects, first at the Faculty of Pharmacy and later at the Faculty of Science and Technology. In 2019, I became an assistant professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, and since 2023, I have secured a permanent position as an associate professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology.

My research work has been framed in the development of catalytic processes of energetic and environmental interest, mainly related to the biorefinery concept. In particular, my work has focused on the production of H2 through the reforming of oxygenates such as DME, ethanol and especially bio-oil obtained from the pyrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass. Over the last 17 years, I have contributed to the development of a two-stage bio-oil reforming system that prevents clogging and reduces catalyst deactivation, the development of catalysts with reduced deactivation and/or regeneration, and the proposal of alternative reforming strategies such as oxidative reforming and in situ CO2 capture. I am currently working on membrane reactor reforming to increase both H2 yield and purity, and on combined dry (CO2) and steam reforming to produce synthesis gas. This research has resulted in 44 publications in JCR journals (34 in Q1), with more than 1800 citations and an h-index of 26. I have supervised 2 PhD Thesis with International Distinction.
