Ibon URIARTE
He graduated in Biological Sciences (1994) at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). In 1996, the Basque Government granted him a pre-doctoral fellowship to do his PhD (2001) on the production and the populations´ dynamics of the estuarine zooplankton (UPV/EHU). Since 2003, he was hired as ecology lecturer in the Grade of Environmental Sciences at the Faculty of Pharmacy (UPV/EHU) and, currently, he is coordinator of the 2nd course of this Grade. In addition, he co-teaches the course of “Degradation and rehabilitation of estuaries” of both in the MSc «Environmental Pollution and Ecotoxicology», and in the Erasmus Mundus MSc «Marine and Environmental Resources» (UPV/EHU), and the course “El Zooplancton de los Ecosistemas Costeros” in the MSc “Biodiversidad, Funcionamiento y Gestión de Ecosistemas” (UPV/EHU). Since its inception in 1997, he is a researcher member of the team of Ecology of zooplankton (UPV/EHU), and belongs to the consolidated research group on Marine and Estuarine Plankton of the UPV/EHU, which launched a monitoring program of the zooplankton communities in the estuaries of Bilbao and of Urdaibai. Research experience in marine and estuarine ecology, focusing his interest on zooplankton-environmental relationships, mainly evaluating the impact of climate and anthropogenic forcing on plankton-ecosystems (marine and estuarine realms) based on the analysis of time-series: spatial-temporal changes in distribution, composition and structure, non-indigenous zooplankton species. He also participates in the Working Group of Zooplankton Ecology (WGZE) integrated into the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES), in the cooperative publication ICES Zooplankton Status Report, in the database COPEPEDIA of the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, US) Fisheries and ICES, and, also, in the ICES Working Group Eurobus (Towards a EURopean OBervatory of the invasive calanoid copepod Pseudodiaptomus marinUS). He has participated in 22 projects of public funding of the Spanish Government, the Basque Government, the UPV/EHU and the UNESCO Chair. He has signed 23 contracts with companies to perform technical services, primarily with AZTI-Tecnalia. He is (co)author of 40 scientific publications in SCI-indexed journals (Q1: 17; h-index: 16), 2 book chapter and 4 popular publications and has presented >80 contributions in >60 international congresses.
