 Iciar Martínez

Iciar Martínez obtained a Ph D in Science by the University of Tromsø (Norway, 1990) and by the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EUH, Spain, 1991). Dr Martinez is currently a Research Professor at the Research Center for Experimental Marine Biology and Biotechnology, UPV/EHU, Spain (2012-up to date) holding a position financed by Ikerbasque, and a Visiting Professor at the Norwegian College of Fishery Science, Faculty of Biosciences, Fisheries and Economics, of the University of Tromsø, Norway (1999 up to date). In 2007 she was the holder of a Fellowship of the Society for the Promotion of Science, hosted at the National Research Institute of Fisheries Science by Prof. Michiaki Yamashita. She is currently a member of the European Aquaculture Technology and Innovation Platform. Her fields of expertise include seafood safety, quality, authenticity, identification of bioactive substances and contaminants in the environment and in seafood, rapid detection and monitoring methods, and development and applications of systems engineering methodologies to the design of biosensors and biological warning systems for fisheries, aquaculture practices and environmental monitoring. Prof. Martinez is author and coauthor of about 80 scientific indexed publications and over 100 presentations to Conferences. Iciar Martinez is a Research Professor of the Spanish High Council of Scientific Research (CSIC, Spain, 2009-2012), currently on leave. Previously, Prof. Martinez was Group Leader for the Group of Seafood and Consumer Safety of the Dept Seafood Processing Technology of SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture, Trondheim, Norway (2001-2009) and Principal Researcher at NOFIMA, Tromsø, Norway (1987-2001). Prof. Martinez has led research projects for about 6 million euros. Prof. Martinez is responsible for teaching the course Fish Welfare and Product Quality in the Master Program Marine Environmental and Resources, (2013- up to date; University of the Basque Country; and Food Safety, BIO-3607, BIO-3608 (University of Tromsø, 1999-up to date). She supervised one Ph D Thesis (defended in the University of Tromsø, 2009) and 2 Master Theses (defended in the UPV/EHU, 2013 and 2014). She is currently supervising 2 Ph D Theses University of Tromsø and 1 Master Thesis.
