Esther BLANCO RAYÓN
International PhD Thesis “Contribution to the development of Best Available Practices (BAPs) for a multi-biomarker approach in sentinel mussels based on a better understanding of the influence of confounding factors on biomarker values and responsiveness” in 2018 under the supervision of Dr. Ionan Marigomez and Dr. Urtzi Izagirre in the Marine Station of Plentzia (PiE-UPV/EHU) within the consolidated group of Cellular Biology in Environmental Toxicology. Stay of 3 moths working on a lab in the UNC Charlotte (North Carolina, USA) under the supervision of Dra. Anna V. Ivanina and Dra. Inna M. Sokolova. 6 projects, 7 articles and 12 contributions to international congresses. Supervisor of 4 undergraduate students and 1 visitor PhD student.
SCIENTIFIC EXPERTICE: design, organization and performance of field (biomonitoring) and laboratory experiments using bivalves. Scientific experience in the applications of biological responses to pollutants and their understanding (taking into account the natural variability of biomarkers) in biomonitoring and laboratory experiments using bivalves: biochemical biomarkers (oxidative stress and energetic biomarkers), cellular biomarkers (especially lysosomal biomarkers), tissue-level biomarkers and histopathological analysis. Knowledge in: bioassays using bivalve larvae and microalgae; electronic particle counters; flow cytometers; maintenance and reproduction of bivalves; and culture of mussel larvae, microalgae and brine shrimp.
