Deskribapena Cells are composed of a vast number of molecular structures that come all together to form a complicated, plastic, and dynamic network. This web of intracellular interactions between macromolecules and metabolites is often described as the “interactome network.” This interactome can be defined as the network which integrates all physical interactions taking place in a cell. In our research group, we aim to (1) map membrane protein-lipid interactome networks in the cell, (2) pinpoint the molecular mechanisms by which lipids regulate membrane protein activities and function in a subset of human diseases (i.e., cancer, neurodegenerative), and (3) understand their role in HIV virus entry and morphogenesis. To tackle these questions, the lab focuses on developing novel chemical approaches to study these questions that elude more conventional methods of biology, as well as creating new platform technologies, based on state-of-the-art mass spectrometry strategies, to perform chemoproteomics studies of lipid/protein interactions in living cells and organisms. |
