Core Writing Course
Course objectives and content
The aim of the course is to facilitate PhD students in generating professional level writings in key structures in English.
The course is divided into two main areas: Structure and Content.
- Structure: the production of material in the appropriate style -- such as abstracts, articles, dissertation papers, research essays or reports.
- Content: facilitating the use and understanding of key grammatical structures to clearly present ideas and or thoughts in the written format (such as phrases and types of clauses) as well as simple, compound or complex sentences using discourse markers and punctuation.
Revision of texts produced during the course is also included.
Practical aspects
Candidates must produce original weekly written text, make error corrections, as well as actively participate within the group for maximum benefit.
Requirements
- Candidates must have an accredited Common European Framework for Languages (CEFR) level of B2 minimum, although C1 is preferable.
- Candidates must attend a minimum of 80% of the classes in order to obtain the course certificate and the first three sessions are mandatory.
Duration:
Ten two-hour sessions over ten weeks (20 hours).

Maximum number of candidates per course is 12.
Teachers:
- Jason Hood has a degree in Anthropology from the University of Nebraska with a minor in Plains Indian Studies. He has an extensive background in Sports and Weight Training as well as being a former personal trainer. Jason has been an English teacher for more that 14 years training numerous students for many different English certifications with great success while specializing in improving their writing abilities.
Registration and matriculation fee:
Registration can be done through the following link (closed). Candidates will be accepted on a first come first served basis with a maximum number of 12 candidates per group as long as they fulfill all requirements and certify the payment. Priority will be given to candidates that have not followed the course before. Course Fee: 30 €

Cancellation:
a) if the course eventually does not run due to the lack of a minimum number of candidates (12), the initial payment will be reimbursed to each student.
b) if cancellation is individual (due to personal reasons of the candidate), the payment will NOT be reimbursed.
