Mónica Urízar was born in 1982. Received her MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of the Basque Country, UPV/EHU, Bilbao (Spain) in 2006. In 2010, she obtained the Certificate of Advanced Studies in Mechanical Engineering and Structural Systems. She presented her International Thesis entitled “Methodology to Enlarge the Workspace of Parallel Manipulators by means of Non-singular Transitions” in 2012, obtaining her PhD in Mechanical Engineering. Her Thesis received the Doctoral Extraordinary Award given by the University of the Basque Country.
During her research career, she has attended numerous International Conferences in the filed of robotics, computational kinematics, mechnism design, etc., and she has published several research papers in relation with these topics. She has also worked in eight Research and Development Projects. In addition to this, she has participated in one Summer School and also done two long internships — the first one in the University of Innsbruck (Austria), Unit Geometry and CAD, in 2010, and the second one in the RWTH Aachen (Germany) at the Department of Mechnism Theory and Dynamics of Machines in 2011.
At the moment, she is working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering in Bilbao in the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). Her research interests are computational kinematics, singularity analysis, optimal design of parallel manipulators and reconfigurable robots.
