SIGNING OF THE SALAMANCA DECLARATION ON THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

The UNESCO Chair has signed the Salamanca Declaration on the UN Sustainable Development Goals and has made an institutional commitment to “collaborate with experts and political leaders to apply the results of sustainability research”. Through the Ecosystem Services of the Basque Country project, the Chair works to promote the applicability of results of research into sustainable management and on how to integrate these.

The Salamanca Declaration is an open invitation to organisations and individuals from any country, of any age and background, to accept a series of general principles and take on an institutional or personal commitment to help advance towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The 2018 Ibero-American Conference on the UN Sustainable Development Goals is being organised by the University of Salamanca, the Polytechnic University of Madrid and Iberdrola. The conference will form part of the commemorative events marking the eighth centenary of the University of Salamanca. Its main goal is to provide a framework for reflection and debate so that different levels of government alongside businesses, universities and civil society bodies can together drive forward the necessary transformations for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, part of the UN 2030 Agenda.
