“DON’T LEAVE FOOD ON THE PLATE – TAKE IT HOME WITH YOU!”

Ibone Ametzaga, member of the UNESCO Chair, is the Co-Director together with María Merino of the initiative “Don’t leave food on the plate – take it home with you!”.

The project—the result of a collaboration between the University of the Basque Country and Leioa Hospitality and Catering College—aims to prevent food waste. Since April 19th, the project has provided diners in the College (around a thousand people pass through its canteens every day) with 100% organic biodegradable containers so that they can take leftover food away with them. Diners are also encouraged to choose the number and type of dishes and portion sizes that align with what they are actually going to eat.

The ‘solidarity fridge’ and composting are other initiatives which have been launched in support of sustainability.
