Nestor ETXEBARRIA

(H-index: 26; UPV/EHU Professor in Chemistry; Researcher in the IBea CRG «A»). Head of Dept. Anal Chem (UPV/EHU) since 2011. His research activities started in solution equilibrium studies including a short stage at the KTH Stockholm (1990) studying the mobility of radionuclides in groundwaters. From 1994 till 1996 he did a postdoc stay at the JRC-IRMM (Geel, Be) implementing the production control of certified reference materials by means of Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA). Since then he was involved in the development of analytical methods and their application to environmental issues paying special attention to the analysis of organic micro- contaminants and in the eco toxicological consequences of the presence of some of those contaminants in estuarine and coastal areas. Meanwhile he was also involved in the know-how transfer to start-ups and small technological companies (analysis of bioactive compounds and recycling of agro-industrial wastes). Recently he has been involved in different biomedical research activities (hyperthermia in oncology with functionalized magnetic nanoparticles and the analysis of endocannabinoids). Finally, he is directly involved in the development of a metabolomic platform at the PiE-UPV/EHU and to integrate different omic approaches in ecotoxicological issues. He has published >125 ISI articles, 6 book chapters and 4 textbooks. Supervisor: 12 PhDss and >15 MSc Thesis. Member of the UPV/EHU academic board of the Erasmus Mundus Master on Marine Environment and Resources.
